Penthouse flat in Brazil | Ana Ferre

The object of this project is a penthouse located in Higienópolis, a residential neighborhood in the north of the city of Porto Alegre, capital of Rio Grande do Sul-Brazil. It has two floors and terrace, reaching a total area of 180m².

The aim of the work was to adapt and modernize the interior of the penthouse, original from the 80s, to the current needs of a young couple with a child. The general intervention included a new electric, hydraulic and gas network, as well as new coatings on floors and walls, some carpentries were changed and a new one was opened on the stairs to achieve better lighting and ventilation, those in laurel-freijó wood were maintained and restored.

The reform was executed in two stages:

The first one included all the internal rooms, mainly looking for greater integration and better lighting and ventilation between the spaces. To this end, a series of walls were demolished on the ground floor, to expand the kitchen and create an integrated dining room, opened to the living room were the wood stair is located. The furniture project sought to strengthen this integration, with a large counter suspended in naval plywood and unpolished basalt stone that extends from the kitchen to the laundry area, the shelves arranged on it have black metal structure that harmonizes with the ducts electric in sight and the furniture of the living room.

For the floor of the kitchen / dining room, hydraulic brick in three shades of gray was chosen, and white tiles for one of the walls. In the living room was placed parquet and in the rooms vinyl type wood, all the walls and ceiling are white. In the main bathroom the floor and the original bathtub in marble were kept and restored. The sanitary articles and the tiles are new and totally white, as well as the counter and shelves in carpentry, these were closed with doors of mirrors to expand the space.

In the upper floor an opaque gray stone covers the floor of all the spaces reinforcing the integration between them. The living and TV room has a library also in naval plywood and metal structure in sight. In the room of the grill continues was made a counter in masonry and smoothed cement. A black wall that keeps the texture of the bricks in view takes center stage in this room and is also used as a blackboard.

The second stage included the external area, removing a small pool of concrete to expand the free area of ​​terrace, complete waterproofing and placement of new floor of light gray stone. The exterior walls received new paint and waterproofing.
