"LA MASSANA” FINE ARTS SCHOOL | ESTUDIO CARME PINÓS

The Massana School forms part of the long transformation process of the Gardunya Square, situated in the heart of Barcelona’s historical district. This project responds to the will of creating a luminous interior made up of open spaces in its 11,000 square meters of usable surface area, while at the same time achieving an exterior that remains harmonious with the urban web in which it stands. The building is split, both in terms of volumetrics as well as in the solution of the facade, in response to the surrounding constructions. With the objective of giving it a more unique and sculptural character and simultaneously diminishing bulkiness, the part of the building that faces the square is decomposed into two rotating volumes that generate different terraces. The ceramic piece reminiscent of a brise soleil that covers the exterior emphasizes its volumetric will while at once protecting the student’s privacy.

ESCUELA DE ARTE Y DISEÑO LA MASSANA

La Escuela Massana forma parte de un largo proceso de transformación urbana de la Plaza de la Gardunya situada en el caso histórico de Barcelona.
Con una superficie útil de 11.000 m2, todo el esfuerzo del proyecto responde a la voluntad de crear unespacio interior luminoso con espacios abiertos de relación al mismo tiempo que desde el exterior el edificiose vea armónico con la trama urbana.
El edificio se fracciona tanto en volumetría como en resolución de fachada en respuesta a los edificioscircundantes. Con el objetivo de darle un carácter más singular y escultórico y, a la vez, quitar pesadez aledificio, la parte que da a la plaza se descompone en dos volúmenes que rotan creando terrazas.
Una pieza cerámica a modo de brisolei cubre esta parte del edificio y permite enfatizar su voluntad escultórica al mismo tiempo que protege la intimidad de los alumnos.
