The site is located in Plettenberg Bay on the Western Cape and set amongst the feinbos dunes descending directly to the beach. Bedroom accommodation is provided in a cantilevered box that is open towards the sea and screened by the 23 eucalyptus timber panels operated on counterweights. External areas beneath the box are sheltered and function as outdoor living rooms in addition to the main enclosed space. The bedroom circulation route is delineated by a long eucalyptus screen with roof glazing above, thus filtering natural light into the interior. The curving external wall defines the private territory of the house within the site, and terminates as a water shute into the pool.
