Auer Weber have one of the three first prizes in the competition for the renovation of Munich’s top cultural centre. The centre, known as the Gasteig, is the largest of its kind in Europe. Major objectives of the planned renovation are two create greater access for visitors and to better integrate the centre into its urban environment. Visitor flow is to be simplified and overall layout clarified. The projected main entrance to the centre provides a good example of how these objectives can be met: spacious steps of amphitheatre-like proportions sited at the junction of two streets lead up to the copper coloured massive of the centre itself. All in all it promises to become a major Munich landmark.
