Cramton Farm | Mathison I Mathison Architects
Interior renovation Ada, michigan / United States / 2017
Set on a large rural property, this project focused on primary living and working areas within the footprint of a traditional farmhouse to expand functionality and flexibility for a young and active family.
Specifically, the renovation included re-working the busiest areas of the house: family entry, mudroom, laundry, kitchen, and office space.
The kitchen and eat-in areas were rotated 90 degrees to offer expanded views through a large glass wall and improved access to the existing backyard pool area. The new, modern spaces were treated as an insertion into the exposed post and beam frame of the house, a material language that was important to maintain.
New family entry spaces were incorporated into the design including updated laundry and mudroom spaces, with new rear pool access. A dark and narrow corridor which provided access to the office and main level master suite, is now wider and full of natural borrowed light through the office.
