A top floor in the Central Business District was converted into an emerging movie production company office in Beijing. The big challenge was to build curved partition walls for private offices and meeting rooms that allow transparency but guarantee the acoustic inside the room. We created a system by alternating between wooden screens and glass strips that gives an effect of movement and semitransparency when walking down the corridors. The dimension of the system adapts smoothly to the curves and it does not require installation by a special expert.
Different departments are separated by the colors corresponding to the company logo. The working stations are concentrated in the center of the floor surrounded by common areas to provide natural light during the day without this light reflecting directly on the computer screens. Those common areas serve as transition to dim the light and give a sense of openness.
The VIP area ceiling is inspired by an extruded thumbprint. The space between strips is wide enough to make the ceiling feel higher. A special stainless steel bar table reflects the space.
