Psycho-social Rehabilitation & Recovery Center | Kalani Dissanayake

The project is a portal to defining an architectural solution to an untouched but serious social issue in the society, where the social stigma is highly applied for a group of young people who are suffering from mental disorders.

A tranquil environment furnished with lush green, overlooking a serene view of a river could enhance the psychological and physical wellness. The building was designed without harming the existing incline land and it was used to accommodate different functions by proper zoning. Social and family integration activities, psychotherapy, expressive activities, relaxing and spiritual activities, psycho-education, intellectual discussions create more experiential rehabilitation recovery for inmates. The design was assisted by the Salutogenesis theory where it enlightens about incorporating natural environment in to the building design in order to facilitate psychological and physical wellbeing.

Minor excavation when construction is a main idea and the materials and construction technology was applied accordingly. Building materials are exposed to indicate the fine details of building where the building itself is an exhibit of the anatomy of technology.

The project is a healing platform where it is an aid to a certain time of their lives and a foundation to be reinstated in the society as a psychologically and emotionally stable young individual to be recognized in respect in the society.
