Rehabilitation of a house in the neighborhood of Poble Nou by transforming the flat for airb&b. It has a dark floor and it’s compartmentalized, so the challenge is to transform it to be bright and attractive for people visiting Barcelona. We achieve this through good design and conservation of characteristic elements from the existing Barcelona such as the hydraulic mosaic, vaulted ceiling and wood.
As for the distribution we made a radical decision. The flat splits in two halfs, one of them is a long space and the other is a volume that contains the two bedrooms. In this way, the space has two facades and it makes the flat more spacious. The wall that divides the house in two is made out of corrugated sheet metal to give it metallic texture. The top is slanted to allow beams to be seen in whole and promote this idea of a bigger space.
