Set in the heart of the emerging Porta Volta neighborhood, Hotel Viu Milan manages to capture the zeitgeist of the modern-day city with its progressive and sustainable architectural concept, while honoring the classic aesthetics of Milanese design with its sleek interiors. When Originals Antonio and Tommaso Viscardi honed their vision for Hotel Viu Milan, the neighborhood’s effervescent energy provided the inspiration to create a hub for the international creative community—albeit one with impeccable design credentials as befitting its locale. Featuring a glass façade framed with living greenery, the hotel’s architecture pays homage to the redefined aesthetics of the area. Inside, blended colors and textures, including parquet oak wood floors and dark wood, provide a timeless setting for classic Italian furniture from Molteni&C Contract Division. Throw in a rooftop pool and terrace, the very first to grace a five-star hotel in the city, the Italian fashion and design capital is set to welcome a new prima donna to the scene.

Design & Architecture
It is said that fortune favors the brave, and this adage certainly seems true of architects Arassociati’s bold design for Hotel Viu Milan. Representative of the regeneration of the urban environment around Porta Volta, the 124-room hotel stands out thanks to its exterior’s spectacular vertical garden. Rendered in sustainably-sourced wood, metal and bronzed glass, the hotel’s architecture is composed of undulating patterns of indentions and projections that define each story. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows flood the rooms and guest areas with natural light and proffer a firm sense of location with panoramic city views, ensconcing guests in an inviting, home-like setting reminiscent of a stylish Milanese townhouse. The lush greenery that bookmarks the property pays homage to Stefano Boeri’s landmark Bosco Verticale project, and demonstrates Hotel Viu Milan’s passion for eco-sustainability. A newly minted public square in front of the hotel will continue the green narrative of this regenerated pocket of Porta Volta.

Local Milanese studio AG&P Greenscape are responsible for the landscape design of the hotel’s vertical gardens. A series of planters connected through a network of steel cables threaded with climbing plants form the foundations of the walls, with every spare space given over to lush greenery to create a botanic waterfall. Each plant used in the design of the garden was carefully selected to withstand the conditions imposed by the unique
setting, with a focus on evergreen and locally sourced flora. Jasmine, ivy, climbing roses, clematis, and wisteria weave along the length of the building, while rosemary, cotoneaster oleander, germander, honeysuckle and viburnum complete the organic narrative.

The visual concept of the hotel’s interiors was entrusted to Arassociati Studio and Nicola Gallizia Studio; this collaboration has translated into an interior aesthetic that is both soothing and surprising thanks to a tonal color palette and contemporary textures that complement the architecture of the hotel. Parquet oak wood floors and dark wood contrast perfectly with light colors and fabrics, many of which are handmade and all exclusively created for the hotel by renowned Italian textile company Rubelli. A tangible celebration of Milanese craftsmanship: the furnishings come courtesy of Molteni&C Contract Division world leader for design furniture.

Molteni&C Contract Division has carried out important tailor-made projects all over the world, in collaborations with the most important international architecture firms: turkney projects for public and work spaces, like hotels, restaurants, residences, store and boutique chains, clinics, research centres, libraries, museums and theatres, cruise liners, military ships, offices and head offices, through the offer of fixed furniture as well as loose furniture, including the Dada kitchens, which can be customised with Molteni&C furniture.

For this project Molteni&C Contract Division furnished all the social areas (lobbies, restaurants, bars), bedrooms and suites with custom made fixed and loose furniture charachterized by delicate nuances and completed by a curated collection of objets d’art. That reinforce the impression of staying at a private residence—albeit one outfitted with impeccable taste.

The entrance of Viu Hotel displays the unconventional Freestyle sofa design Ferruccio Laviani and two D.154.2 armchairs, designed by Gio Ponti in 1954 and today produced by Molteni&C, thanks to an agreement with the Gio Ponti Archives, thereby preserving the legacy of the great Milanese maestro, which would otherwise have been lost. Lighting forms an integral part of the overall design concept of Hotel Viu Milan, and it fell to Studio Voltaire to create a lighting system that continues the narrative of the hotel’s architecture and form. In the guestrooms, downlight Kap fixtures by Flos create a welcoming and stylish atmosphere, while warm, white lighting has been chosen for the ground floor guest areas to enhance the textures and shades of the Rubelli fabrics. The ceilings are highlighted through the innovative design of the Flos Magnet 2.0. system, whereby a linear profile of recessed spotlights emphasizes the contrasts between light and dark in an elegant geometric pattern.

L’Hotel VIU Milan, situato nel vivace quartiere di Porta Volta di Milano, incarna alla perfezione lo spirito sofisticato e cosmopolita della città grazie ad un’architettura sostenibile e all’avanguardia che cela interni semplici ed eleganti, in linea con l’estetica milanese.
Quando Antonio e Tommaso Viscardi delinearono il loro progetto per l’Hotel VIU Milan, fu l’atmosfera di vivace fermento della zona a dare loro l’ispirazione necessaria a creare un hub per la comunità creativa internazionale, pur mantenendo gli standard di eleganza e qualità dettati dalla sua posizione. La facciata di vetro, incorniciata da una vegetazione molto verde e rigogliosa, si inserisce perfettamente nell’estetica che domina la zona mentre gli interni sono caratterizzati da un accostamento di texture e colori diversi, come i pavimenti in parquet di quercia e legno scuro, delineando la cornice ideale per gli arredi di design della storica azienda italiana Molteni&C Contract Division. Infine, l’Hotel VIU Milan è l’unico hotel 5 stelle a Milano con una piscina esterna con vista a 360° sullo skyline della città: un nuovo gioiello di rara bellezza va’ ad illuminare la capitale della moda e del design.

Design e Architettura
Il giardino verticale che incornicia le 124 stanze dell’hotel fa risaltare l’intera struttura e si inserisce perfettamente nel progetto di valorizzazione urbanistica del quartiere Porta Volta. Gli esterni dell’hotel, caratterizzati da legno eco-sostenibile, metallo e vetro placcato in bronzo, sono definiti da sporgenze e rientranze che si alternano in pattern ondulatori. Le finestre delle stanze e degli spazi comuni hanno vetrate continue dal soffitto al pavimento che permettono alla luce di diffondersi naturalmente, regalando viste panoramiche mozzafiato e accogliendo gli ospiti con uno scenario incantevole, dando la sensazione di essere in una tipica casa del centro milanese. La vegetazione lussuriosa che caratterizza la struttura, è un chiaro omaggio al Bosco Verticale, il palazzo simbolo del progetto di rinnovamento urbano firmato da Stefano Boeri, nonché dimostrazione emblematica dell’approccio eco-sostenibile dell’Hotel VIU Milan. La piazza di fronte all’hotel, completamente rinnovata, sarà in perfetta armonia con l’aspirazione green della nuova Porta Volta.

I giardini verticali che definiscono il profilo dell’hotel sono stati progettati dallo studio milanese AG&P Greenscape. Una serie di vasi collegati da una rete di cavi intrecciati con piante rampicanti creano la base da cui hanno origine le cascate di vegetazione che ricoprono ogni centimetro delle mura. Ogni pianta di questi giardini verticali è stata selezionata in modo da resistere alle condizioni climatiche dell’ambiente in cui si trova, prediligendo sempreverdi e specie appartenenti alla flora locale. Gelsomino, edera, rose rampicanti, clematis e glicine si intrecciano lungo tutta la lunghezza dell’edificio mentre rosmarino, oleandro, camedrio, caprifoglio e vibruno vanno a completare la cornice verde dell’hotel.

Il concept degli interni dell’hotel è stato affidato allo studio Arassociati e allo studio di Nicola Gallizia; collaborazione che si è tradotta in un interior design dall’estetica sorprendente e rassicurante allo stesso tempo, grazie ad una palette di colori tonali e a una sovrapposizione di texture dal feeling contemporaneo, creando arredi perfettamente complementari all’architettura dell’hotel. Pavimenti in parquet di quercia e legno scuro creano un contrasto bilanciato coi colori chiari e i tessuti leggeri degli interni, molti dei quali sono fatti a mano e creati appositamente per l’Hotel VIU Milan dalla rinomata azienda tessile italiana Rubelli. Gli arredi sono una gentile concessione della storica azienda di design Molteni&C Contract Division, leader mondiale per l’arredamento di design.

Molteni&C Contract Division ha realizzato importanti progetti custom-made, in sinergia con i più prestigiosi studi di architettura internazionali: alberghi e ristoranti, residences, catene di negozi e boutiques, case di cura e centri di ricerca, biblioteche, musei e teatri, navi crociera, navi militari, uffici e centri direzionali, tramite l’offerta sia di fixed furniture che di loose furniture, incluse le cucine Dada, eventualmente coordinate agli arredi Molteni&C. Per questo progetto, Molteni&C Contract Division, ha realizzato tutte le aree pubbliche, (ingressi, ristoranti, bar), camere e suite con arredi custom made caratterizzati da una palette di colori delicati e completata da una accurata selezione di opere d’arte. L’ingresso dell’Hotel ospita un tavolo Asterias design Patricia Urquiola, un divano Freestyle design Ferruccio Laviani e due poltrone D.154.2, progettate da Gio Ponti nel 1954 e oggi prodotte da Molteni&C grazie ad un accordo con Gio Ponti Archives.
