This project required the rectification of multiple, poorly considered, previous renovations to a family home. A constrained budget and site called for creative planning to efficiently redesign the existing layout and encourage solar access. The solution resulted in reducing the building footprint by 10sqm to form a new private courtyard directly accessed from reconfigured living spaces.
Volumetric changes, clerestory windows and extensive glazing were employed to puncture the facade, increase light and enhance the new aspect while the use of Passive solar and Stack cooling systems now allowed operability for the balmy Australian climate.

Finally, modest material selections focussing on timber detailing and recycled bricks were integrated throughout to compliment the existing structure.
