All forward-thinking employers in office-based industry understand that intelligent office design is a fundamental component of success. Capturing the message of your brand, creating a good impression for clients and providing workers with the best possible working environment are all essential in the quest for a strong reputation and high revenue. The EMO & TRA office relocation project best exemplifies the design potential for progressive companies.

EMO & TRA are marketing and company branding agencies, respectively, based in Bristol. As part of the Creston group of companies, EMO and TRA were to be moved into the same building at One Glass Wharf, Temple Quay; the objective was to consolidate both companies into one head office to improve communications and efficiency. Approximately 230 staff from three separate locations would be occupying the new space. London-based professional services company, Interactive Space, was appointed to project manage the relocation.

The project brief outlined the requirement of a reception area, meeting rooms, breakout areas, showers, a server room and a theatre-style presentation room, which was a reasonable request, considering the new office comprised 27,204ft2 of CAT A space over two floors. The fit-out included the design and installation of a new spiral staircase to link the first and ground floors – an attempt to enhance staff communications and accessibility.

The office was designed to be open-plan, but the client also wanted separate offices and plenty of shared space for meeting rooms and telephone booths. A tiered seating area for up to 50 people was installed, using an innovative design of space efficiency. Blackboards allows for brainstorming and collaborative work. High-quality ergonomic furniture and plenty of natural light ensure a comfortable environment for employees.

Another key element of the design was semi-private booth space, where more focused work could be completed individually or in small groups. The chosen colour scheme was neutral but with bright accents. EMO & TRA have many corporate clients so it was vital to create an attractive office space that inspired trust and collaboration, as well as creative thinking for its employees. The resulting office is a fun and imaginative space for both staff and visitors. Its contemporary style and innovative design solutions offer a fantastic base for the two brands to work together, while retaining their independence.
