Who doesn’t love to sit at home by the fireplace away from the freezing weather? Unfortunately, winter can also cause certain damages to your home, if you don’t take the necessary precautions.

How to protect the outside of your home?

Usually, damages that occur from bad weather, are mostly seen on the outside of your home. For this reason, you should use the weekend to make sure your house is prepared for the winter. Here are the areas that require attention:

Gutters - make sure they are clean, debris makes them heavy and snow and rain - even heavier. This type of weather can seriously damage them and they can even break and harm a person.

Roof - check for broken tiles - heavy snow storms can blow snow inside your attic. If you find such, or don’t want to risk getting on the roof - call a professional builder and fix this issue as soon as possible.

Tree branches - firstly, the tree branches get heavier because of the snow and could fall down. Protect your car, walkway and other main parts of your property by trimming the trees. Also, observe if tree branches are near power lines - they can cause fire hazard.

Flowers/plants - take in all plants to make sure they won’t freeze outside. Don’t wait for the snow to fall to do this, take action when the weather gets cold.

Loose items - go around the house and check light fittings, shutters and other external materials. Fix them if they are not securely hung or placed.

Patio - secure all garden tools and furniture that can get blown away by strong winds. If necessary, take inside furniture or the glass table.
