The Moscow Museum of Contemporary Art presented a solo exhibition of one of the key artists of the 20th century, Maurits Cornelis Escher. The entire second floor of the museum’s main building was given over to the exhibition.
The artist’s oeuvre was revealed in over one hundred works from various periods, which included lithographs, engravings and linocuts, as well as archival photographs and film.
A succession of colors was used throughout the exhibition rooms to contrast the mostly monochrome artworks. The spaces allude to Escher’s works, playing on perspective, composition and scale, leading the visitor through a slightly altered reality.
