Location
Steep, fertile, south-facing slope.
The growing number of houses and cottages in the area, which was almost
untouched by construction half a century ago (fields, meadows, orchards).
Quality of buildings is rapidly declining on the contrary to quantity.
Proposal
House is placed in the upper part of the property, both floors are settled in
order to fit well into the sloping terrain. Property offers possibility to enjoy
wide open views of the Elbe valley and the plot is at the same time relatively
easily accessible from the adjacent road.
The builder of the original wooden cottage, whose ground plan footprint was
absorbed by the new house, was apparently thinking in the same direction as we
did.
Brick base firmly settles the house into meander curves, wooden first floor
rotating to the south is a tribute to the anonymous masters of typical Czech
weekend cottages. We consider new house to be a free reinterpretation of the
original cottage.
Coat of the new house reflects the colors of the Bohemian Central Uplands in a
summer haze.
