L'albergo, commissionato da Riva Properties, è caratterizzato da un guscio di strati sovrapposti in vetro che inonda gli spazi pubblici interni di luce diurna e contribuisce ad una strategia ad alto rendimento energetico.
Si tratta di una struttura di 13 piani, alcuni dei quali però sotterranei, in modo da mantenere l’altezza dell’edificio entro le norme imposte dalla vicinanza all’aeroporto.
Le 577 camere sono contenute in sei padiglioni, collegati tra loro da ponti, e avvolti in un unico involucro di vetro, che agisce come una barriera al rumore degli aerei.
La hall d'ingresso ha un piano flottante di vetro con vista verso il ristorante al livello sottostante, la piscina e la cascata.
Il piano del ristorante, a cui si accede tramite una passerella di legno, incorpora un centro commerciale e vari luoghi dove mangiare e bere.
Le strutture a doppia altezza destinate alle conferenze, che hanno un ingresso a sé stante per consentire l'accesso separato dal livello stradale, circondano un grande atrio illuminato che porta la luce naturale in profondità nell’edificio e in basso ai livelli inferiori.
Oltre a una scelta di spazi di incontro e di evasione, vi sono una sala da ballo della capacità di 1200 persone, due auditorium e una sala conferenze.
Il centro del bowling, che attualmente occupa il sito, sarà ripristinato nel piano seminterrato della nuova struttura e rimarrà aperto al pubblico.
L'hotel ospiterà anche un centro benessere con piscina, palestra, sauna e sale per trattamenti. Brooker Grant, direttore esecutivo di Foster + Partners, ha detto: “Questo sarà il primo albergo a cinque stelle nelle immediate vicinanze di Heathrow e segna una tappa fondamentale nella trasformazione dell’area. Abbiamo goduto di grande sostegno e incoraggiamento da parte dei residenti, delle imprese e del Comune di Hillingdon e crediamo che la vasta gamma di servizi dell'hotel giocherà un ruolo fondamentale nel servire sia i viaggiatori internazionali che la comunità locale”.

The hotel, developed by Riva Properties is characterised by a distinctive layered glass shell, which floods the public spaces with daylight and contributes to a highly efficient energy strategy. Articulated as a 13-storey structure, several levels are sunk into the ground, keeping the building’s profile low in response to the immediate surroundings.
The rooms are contained within six pavilions, linked by bridges and wrapped in a unifying glass envelope, which acts as a barrier to aircraft noise. The entrance lobby has a floating glass deck with views down to the sunken restaurant level, shallow pool and waterfall. This restaurant floor is accessed via a timber walkway and incorporates a business centre, as well as a variety of venues to eat and drink. The double-height conference facilities, which have their own reception to allow separate access from street-level, encircle a top-lit atrium that brings natural light deep into the building and down to the lower levels.
As well as a selection of meeting venues and breakout areas, there is a flexible 1200-capacity ballroom, two auditoriums and a large conference room. The bowling centre that currently occupies the site will be reinstated within the new scheme at basement level and will remain a public facility. The hotel also incorporates a health centre with a pool, gym, saunas and treatment rooms.
