Footprint Architects was appointed to design a scheme for the co-location of Springwood ASC School on the site of Heathlands Primary School, Bournemouth. Springwood Campus is Bournemouth Borough Councils first purpose built unit designed to cater for children with autism spectrum conditions (ASC). With a capacity for 60 pupils with an age range from 3-19 it caters for children with severe autism and severe learning difficulties. It also has a cluster of three classrooms for pupils with Asperger’s Syndrome. The proposals included the provision of bespoke classrooms incorporating a range of teaching scenarios, dimmable lighting zones, full blackout and access to adjacent withdrawal rooms or safe outdoor play. The school also includes a soft play room, an immersive sensory learning environment and a sensory room.

The Project was completed March 2014.
