This Islington yard site was closed off by an electricity sub-station isolating it from the street view. To utilise effectively this and similar sites, apart from the obvious challenge to allow sufficient natural light and air without any open facades, a unique design solution is called for to meet all planning amenity and outlook requirements. Open spaces are designed to integrate with the interior allowing for maximum line of sight. Offsetting the top storey outline, along with strategic location of skylights and glazed floors results in an airy and light space which feels much larger than it actually is.
