The clients had recently acquired this 19th century property having fallen in love with its historic appearance and tranquil setting. However, the interior layout did not match their contemporary style of living.

ArchitectureLIVE's brief was to change the small dark spaces to deliver open-plan living as well improving the access to the garden and bringing in more natural daylight throughout. This was a particular concern at the back of the property which is north facing and shaded by mature tress.

ArchitectureLIVE’s design, a new single storey house extension and a retained lean-to will be rendered with a new flat roof featuring a striking roof-light above the new dining area to maximise natural daylight. Internal reconfigurations have been made, including the modernisation of the ground floor. New ultra-slimline, polyester powder coated windows and doors including a corner slider complete the design to the rear.

The project has successfully married the existing historic style of the building with a new contemporary design, thus providing a striking combination of both worlds.
