Bangkok artists retreat | CNG Architects

The project regards the trasformation of the "Nightingale Olympic Shopping Mall". It was the first shopping mall in Bangkok. It opened in the early 1960s, and even its innate bizarreness, due to a series of changes, it remains a key landmark and tourist attraction.

The composition process went throught two basic steps. The first step is consisted in the breaking down of the building into its basic parts. While in the second step we decided which elements could be reused and which could be reworked io order to create a sustainable building.

The structure of existing building has been conserved. While the other existing elements have been re-elaborated. For example, the of the existing brise soleil has been changed in a modern facade.

To the existing floors, we have addede:

- a basement, where there are plants and machinery systems,

- another floor, where there are artist rooms;

- a roof garden.
