SHARJAH KINETIC MOMUMENT | Alberto Licandro

In 1998 Sharjah City has been awarded as "The City of Culture in the Arab World". To commemorate such important event, His Highness Dr. Mohammed Al Qassimi ruler of Sharjah and Supreme Member of United Arab Emirates Government, commissioned me the project. It is composed of a central aluminium column which stands up on a white marble concentric steps where a geometric square Kufic Arab script and a labirinth motif decorate it. The aluminium column represents the palm tree trunk which holds a specular and symmetrical structure showing Sharjah Kufic Arab script for the name of the city. The eolic rotation creates energy which is stored and used from dawn to sunset to lit the whole monument.
