Biblioteca - progetto Varna / Bulgaria
Food for Thought
The design project takes inspiration from a seed: it is a source of nourishment and
safeguarded in silos by humans as a guarantee for their survival.
Similarly to a seed, a book needs to be preserved and stored aiming to protect the
knowledge and culture of communities for years to come.
Every book is nourishment for our brain and the large golden archive, the heart of our
design, is the granary that guards and protects the knowledge for future generations.
We imagine a seed (books) that is transported by the ocean breeze (culture) to the city
center, laid down on fertile ground (Varna City). Here sprouts up, arising through the soils
profile (library floors) and finally blooming under the light (renewable source).
Nature enters the building and lays down creating thematic gardens at different levels.
Visitors reach the main entrance from the street by walking through a plaza designed as
a sloped urban park.
The indoor spaces are visually connected to the surrounding with a glass facade, assuring
both natural light for the reading areas and a specific identity to the accessible and friendly
public space.
