1 | Shared Informal Spaces

Teams grow by sharing moments together. The old clinic limited this by separating the different staff areas. The only place of interaction was in the formal operating room.

The new design re-organizes and simplifies the layout for as much informal interaction as possible. A semi-private area combines the daily route of the dentists, nurses and receptionists. It becomes a casual space for daily team moments to be shared.

2 | Let There Be Light

Daylight is a free and abundant resource.

The service cavity around the site perimeter is peeled back to reveal the large, generous windows and maximize daylight entry to all the operating rooms.

The internal corridors and spaces are lit with dropped walls finished with clear glass. The strip of glass brightens the inside spaces, gives an ambient sense of the weather and undoes the stale corridor route of typical office spaces.

3 | Operational Efficiency

Operational efficiency means any of the operating rooms can be used by efficiently any of the dentists. The old clinic limited this because every room had a different layout that slowed down the craft of dentistry.

The design of the new clinic modularizes the different parts of the operational room into ergonomic units. The layout of the ergonomic units are organized similarly between the different operation rooms, allowing dentists to use the rooms interchangeably.
