Rational De-composition
The Bauhaus museum is set up as a new urban nerve center for the
German city of Dessau.
The building insists in the "L" of the central park of the city, “Stadtpark",
and developed according to this form, articulated into several levels with
respect to the individual functions.
Its composition evokes in a provocative manner rationalism of the
Bauhaus: the components and functional materials, are re-evaluated
and enhanced by a new structural dynamism.
From a mass primordial, full of energy, emanates a force-generating
chaos, which crystallized, has skewed elements and fragments of
matter, which are wrapped in a veil glass that closes the gaps between
the elements, giving life to the building.
Inside the museum is divided to cater for exhibitions, but has auks large
areas dedicated to education in design culture and recreation group.
The museum is done through a system of ramps that articulates flanking
facades of the building, allowing visitors to observe the landscape
surrounding the museum as it moves inside.
The exhibition areas are arranged in the heart of the building and lit
artificially.
At the junction between the two wings that make up the "L", in the corner
between the Friedrichstrasse and Kavalierstraße, stands a turreted
volume, facing the opposite side of the Hauptpost tower, which has been
inserted a large terrace.
In the ground floor there are all the functions dedicated to hospitality,
education, as well as offices and logistics.
The main entrance to the museum located on Kavalierstraße, is framed
by two sloping walls that form the archetype of the hut, is aligned with
respect to Ratsgasse connecting prospectively the Town Hall at the
museum. On the opposite side, in continuation visual, you have a
second gate of access / exit which leads to the Stadtpark and culminates
in a sculpture composed of three regular pure solids: cube, pyramid,
sphere.
To the north, on the short side of the building, we find the logistics area
and offices, respectively facing towards the park and towards the
Friedrichstrasse. Both areas have separate entrances.
For unloading of the goods has been provided a wide clearing driveway
accessible from Friedrichstrasse and directly connected to logistics.
To the south, in the head, there is a cafeteria of 100 square meters, with
independent access, which features a large outdoor terrace on the park.
Here we find an area events and a workshop, both of 150 square
meters, a bookshop and sanitation.
The large foyer, about 100 square meters, is the center of gravity of the
area "Education” and the area "Offices / Logistics", was centrally placed
a tour desk. In connection there is the ticket and the wardrobe, from here
via a ramp start going up the path to the exhibition halls. Alternatively
you can enjoy two elevators.
The first floor houses on the long side of the building the temporary
exhibition of 600 square meters, and also the first exhibition rooms of the
permanent collection of the Bauhaus: the Topos “Prolog", the Topos
“Inventor" and Topos “Factory "located on the short side to the north, in
the area of about 750 square meters.
The ramp, bifurcating into two distinct paths, allows the visitor to be able
to choose which show to see before.
A room of about 280 square meters, in which there is the landing of the
two elevators, is placed between the two areas of exposure, becoming a
flexible space usable according to need by both exhibitions.
From this point you can continue the path of the permanent exhibition
taking another ramp leading to the second level.
At the second level are placed the other exhibition spaces in an area of
about 650 square meters, placed always on the short side of the building
on top of the first, for a total of about 1400 square meters of space used
for the exhibition of the collection Bauhaus .
To the south, respectively, above the cafeteria and in connection with it,
there is a panoramic restaurant of 130 square meters, having the glass
roof. Night will be the lantern for the city.
