NEW BAUHAUS MUSEUM | Carlo Rivi
The New Bauhaus Museum in Dessau Dessau / Germany / 2015
The new Bauhaus Museum competition area lay down on the border of the City Park of Dessau.
The Area faces two relevant urban elements: on the west side it faces the City Park while on the east side it faces the main road Kavalierstraße and the pedestrian way Ratsgasse.
The urban environment and the idea that the museum is a civic and public value has lead the decision to build the main public spaces of the museum programme along the Kavalierstraße. On this side are planned all the visitor service and the museum education spaces.
The urban node between Kavalierstraße and Friedrichstraße becomes the Bauhaus Museum new square. From the corner it extends up becoming the open space foyer in a large terrace facing the museum main entrance. From the terrace it will be possible to access the cafeteria and the museum education spaces directly.
On the west side the relevance presence of the City Park generates a sort of "inflection" of the building which let and bring the park close to the foyer. Here is planned the museum park entrance that can be used also as group access. The park level rise up in this part to reach the floor level of the museum.
The functions programme is clearly subdivided by main areas.
The exhibition space is designed as a large room that can be easily organized using a movable wall system to divide the space for the collection presentation and the temporary exhibition. Two large windows will give to the visitor the possibility to observe the City Park. Both are thought to be partially or completely blacked depending on the exhibition needs.
The logistic area is placed on the north side of the site, the access for the delivery trucks will be from Friedrichstraße as suggested by the competition programme.
On Friedrichstraße are also planned the bus and taxi parking.
The car parking are also located in the area suggested by the programme, starting from here the visitor will walk through the park and reach the museum park entrance.
