Positioned at the epicenter of the skills retraining movement, The Flatiron School offers computer programming and coding courses to a select group of mid-‐career students. In the midst of rapid expansion and transitioning to a rolling cohort structure, the school came to mcdc looking to expand the capacity of its Wall Street campus and to envision the classroom of the future.

Following a thorough strategic needs analysis and space planning exercise, we worked to overhaul the campus from the bottom up. Space flexibility was facilitated through the fabrication of a 26’ long garage door that allows the showpiece classroom to be alternately open to the campus and closed for lecture time.

A contemporary, friendly ambiance was delivered through simple materials and striking graphic
installations. At the centerpiece of the revamped campus is a collaborative graffiti wall created by students, staff and NYC street artists. The wall reflects the ethos and ideals of the brand and serves to inspire past, present, and future students of the power of coding.
