In this Oceanfront house in Dominican Republic., surrounded by single-acre lots, the 6,500-square-foot Caleton 4 Residence was designed by Hugo Mijares and ODB to maximize the stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. Sandblasted masonry walls and Stucco enclose a first-floor living space whose floor-to-ceiling sliding glass panels open onto a courtyard, entertainment verandas and pools. Two private guest rooms enjoy carefully framed, yet distinct, relationships to the landscape. Passive strategies render the house sustainable allowing daylight and cross ventilation throughout the complex. The second-floor master suites floats above the masonry walls and is minimally sheathed in local wood and glass that dramatically reflects the sky and nearby Port. The garage and service areas occupy a local Coral Stone-clad structure that provides a strong counterpoint to the principal volumes of the house.
