Furnas Boutique Hotel Thermal & SPA

The Furnas Boutique Hotel Thermal & Spa is located in the small village of Furnas, on São Miguel Island, in Azores, a place with unique characteristics due to its natural surroundings and environment that stands out in the highest concentration of thermal hot springs in Europe.

After renovation, mainly in what concerns to the Architecture and Interior Design concept, and under the DHM - Discovery Hotel Management brand, the Hotel opened its doors last March as member of the international chain Design Hotels®.

The Furnas Boutique Hotel Thermal & Spa is a Saraiva+Associados project, in a co-authorship of the architect Miguel Saraiva and signed by the interior designer Nini Andrade Silva.

With the challenge of maintaining the original character of the old Thermal Centre of Furnas, the architectural project privileged the expansion of the building trough a neutral metal structure (anthracite gray color) filled in by large glass planes.

The interior design concept took shape from the territorial context in which the Hotel takes place. We look for emphasizing the beauty of the surrounding nature through a chromatic palette and aesthetic design solutions increasing a journey through historical, cultural and natural heritage of São Miguel Island, with clear emphasis on the Thermal Center of Furnas. We use shades of white symbolizing the light of the vapors from the volcanic hot springs; brown from the strength of the earth and green and blue symbolizing the nature and the great Atlantic Ocean.

With an extraordinary environment, the main focus is given to the Spa which take advantage of its unique location on one of the largest thermal center of the world using the thermal water called for "Iron Water of Quenturas" with a 59,6 ºC temperature. The Spa at Furnas Boutique Hotel has a dynamic thermal pool, fitness center and 10 treatment rooms including whirlpool, floatbed, Vichy shower, among others.

With an innovative market lobby concept, that integrates different valences such as the Hotel reception, bar, shopping, work and leisure area and restaurant, this is a multi-purpose space designed to improve a relaxed, informal and dynamic environment.

The Furnas Boutique Hotel Restaurant - "À Terra", is open to all people and promises to be a journey through the flavors, textures and colors of the local cuisine, through a home cooking healthy and delicious, with the "Josper" oven being the restaurant's spotlight.
