The new library is located in the center of Copenhagen, the area that includes the old port of Nyhavn, close to the royal residences and in front of the Opera House in Copenhagen. The proposed project is born from the desire to recapture a "empty" space of 1700 sqm (now occupied by a parking lot for buses).

The idea is to transform the "parking" in an urban structure and make it interact and work together with the rest of the city, both "formal" and at the level "functional". Building is designed as a chain of reactions to the various external and internal forces acting on it.The architectural image of the Library is due to two issues: the "strength" of the base and the lightness of the volume above.

The base is cut, wash and tilted to allow the public to enter from both directions, thought of as a "canyon" between the royal residences and waterfront, a place where you love to "see" (on the opposite side of the canal Opera House, one of the important buildings from the architectural point of view of the whole city) and "walk" (to get to the statue of the Little Mermaid, the symbol of the city).

Inside is placed a large double height atrium that connects the everyday public life and dynamic spaces and technology of the new library with spaces intended for cultural activities and entertainment, separate but connected visually with each other.

The volume above has sided transparent to allow light and air to enter the heart of the structure. The two longest facades are protected from weathering steel panels full of cracks, textures, and rhythms of light and shadow, giving rise to a fascinating change material that enhances the overall image of the building, able to hold and reflect light according to a variable rate is based on the articulation of the walls on the different sides of the building, and according to the weather outside.

As the sun lights up the volume inside and reveals his plot in the negative voids and cavities. Green space is given by the large roof terrace with a gentle incline overlooking the city.
