With quality in production and service, the economic region Bayerisch-Schwaben is growing fast. A typical example is our customer from the metal-working industry: everything feasible is made, on the shortest route and with accurate, fine quality down to the last detail. It seems only logical that also the working environment should express these high standards of the company's performance. The office spaces have been newly built, right adjacent to a new production hall.

The office was designed by Dreimeta, not only in order to streamline processes, but also to translate the pragmatic elegance that metal is associated with, into a modern working environment.

The client : Versatility of Metal

For the past 20 years, our client Batz & Burgel has been active as a successful medium-sized company in the metal processing sector. With the top quality of their products and services, as well as with its culture of communication and teamwork, the company has managed to become well-established in its field.

The task: design of office spaces for employees and management

On the newly aquired premises a factory building with an adjoining office and administration area was built. The ground and 1st floor of the office building are occupied by the company itself, the space on the 2nd floor will eventually be rented out.

The entrance area, as well as the changing & break-out rooms for the employees of the production hall are situated on the ground floor. The 1st floor is where a reception area, a meeting room and the office spaces are located. The space was to organize in order to support the processes in operation and communication, thus enhancing the company's performance. The challenge was to design the large office space for the employees, taking into account the various functions, and yet to create a pleasant atmosphere, which emphazises the company's standing within the industry.

The idea: Using unconventional means to encourage communication

Flexibility and rapid action characterize modern working environments - even with our customers. To enhance the performance of communication and to speed up interaction, we organized the spaces in a clear manner. The workdesks are designed as triangular shapes to promote interaction between employees.

The design implementation: Floating cabinets, the triangle as the dominant form and aluminum as a greeting element

The central element, also creating the first impression, is the reception desk designed by Dreimeta. The aluminium facings were produced by Batz & Burgel itself: the superposed aluminium ribbons allude to tool parts that the company manufractures for the industry.

The reception and entrance area is easily separable by a curtain, thus allowing a more privat atmosphere around the meeting table. The open-plan office for the employees and the office space of the management are separated by a glass wall.

In order to promote the connection, communication and flow between employees, we tried to dissolve the severety of the rectangular floor plan. For example, a long curved wall, containing lots of cabinets, runs from the reception area through the open-plan office to the executive office.  Further, large custom-designed triangular workdesks, each with 3 workstations, generate a communicative working environment far from conventions. On the table surface, Linoleum was used, which feels great at any temperature. Its a natural material and therfore not only sustainable, but also very durable. The lighting above the workdesks takes up the triangular shape and provides optimal lighting for the desks. The triangular shape continues in the pattern of the specially designed carpet, giving the space a stimulating atmosphere. In the reception and meeting area, a natural oak flooring was chosen to clearly differentiate the functions of these areas from the office space.

The success: motivating working environment with identification value

With the design of the space, the opprortunity was not only taken to optimize processes within the office, but also to break with usual rules and to support the staff with an exciting and communicative atmosphere.

The integration of the "production world", also through windows from the office into the production hall, as well as through materials and the overall design, brings the "heart" of the company into the office environment and promotes the employees to identify with their company.
