The project for Camperdown Apartment was an apartment renovation within in an inner city context. The approach was one which conceptually resisted the necessity to build, instead, replacing such desire with a willingness to extract space and to sculpt surface into form, function and ornament. The existing space was envisaged a black box, a non-place, a void within the dense urban context in which it is situated. The approach was to drag the outside into the space, to extract form, colour and life from the outside environment. Surface was pulled from the periphery of the space, stretched and manipulated to contain function and create form , colour was also extracted with as a gesture to bring the outside into the space.
