The building’s position in way of the town’s central square triggered its design form. The five storey building is characterized by its curved shape making the plot’s garden seem as part of the town square and simultaneously providing a better view towards the square.

The top floor consists of an autonomous residence which accommodates a five-member family. It has been separated in three zones (Living Room/Kitchen, Children Bedrooms, Master Bedroom) which connect through a curved corridor situated tangent to a curved-shape patio. Τhe inner courtyard formed thanks to the patio provides the sense of loss, but on the same time completes a greater image integrating the interior and exterior spaces.

Because of the north orientation, the roof had to be designed in such a way as to enable appropriate natural lighting and ventilation for all rooms.

The entrance with its curved shape plays a dominant role as it forms the connection between the living room area and the bedrooms.  It is characterized by the contradiction between the solid wall on one side and the hanging bookcase on the other side. Apart from the visible central bookcase, all remaining walls conceal recesses forming either storage spaces or room entrances.

Immediately the visitor reaches the living area with the earthly colours, the wooden floor and ceiling and the fireplace which follows the corridor’s curved shape.

In continuation of the living room area lies the dining room followed by a bench which functions as a food preparation counter.  The scope was to avoid the classic kitchen design concept and to incorporate the kitchen to the dining and living area without interrupting the communication among them.

Entering the master bedroom, a transparent red door defines the closet. The glass shower and the transition in the floor material provide a smooth combination between the bathroom and the bedroom while a wooden wall separates and isolates the toilet, by cutting through the mirror and the bench.

Part of the master bedroom is also the spa above of which there is a folding glass roof. The vertical glass walls allow the entrance of the light without catching the unwanted eyes.

Vivid colors prevail in the children bedrooms while the office has direct access to the patio although it retains the possibility to be isolated at any time.

Low energy consumption was of uppermost importance and therefore environmental friendly solutions were adopted. The underfloor heating takes advantage of not only the heat pumps but also the solar collectors and the energy fireplace. The energy efficient window glasses are being shaded automatically thanks to the instaBUS which controls all of the apartment’s electrical and mechanical installation.
