Constitution Garden | SDARCH Trivelli&Associati

The project was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Constitution of Kuwait. Al Amiri Diwan, the government agency, decided to build a park in Kuwait City to host the monument "The Constitution," which shows the path to democracy of the State of Kuwait.
In 2011 he was an invited competition organized on an area close to the sea, then in 2012 the SdARCH Studio was commissioned to develop the competition project to another area called Martyrs' Park, where it will be installed the Museum currently under construction.
The garden is divided into two areas, one is' "Old Age", the second the "New Age". The monument marks the transition from the old era that represents the time pre-constitution, the new era, or the period after the establishment of the State of Kuwait. "Ancient" is represented by a messy landscape, arid and furious, where reigns the feeling of instability and insecurity. "The New Age" is represented by a landscape organized, prosperous and orderly, dominated security and calm. The garden is designed according to Islamic tradition, as a reflection of paradise, a place where to stay and where time passes, one shaded space where water and vegetation abound, all interpreted with a new contemporary vision. A place where time is "in-between" between the history of the State of Kuwait and its future, and where the space is "in-between" between the area and the new landscape of Kuwait City.
The paths in "The Old Age" are not ordered, the landscape is rough, tough, trees and shrubs coexist with small rocky formations and fight with a desert land, in an arid climate or water.
The monument is intended as a stepping stone to the future, it is made with two large portals 15x9 meters in height, brass and titanium, on the side of '"Old Age" while on the side of' "New Age", 183 blocks in relief highlight the articles of the Constitution. The two major portals are illuminated at the base to highlight the reflection of the material, accentuating the visibility of the monument, as a "beacon": the Constitution as a guide between the mainland and the sea. The facade of brass on the side of "the old Age" without lyrics and without guidance, the difficulties of the past is resolved and overcome by the Constitution.
The Fountain, at the center of the park has large water jets invoking the image of the oasis, around a water sprinkler system, gives the place a greater thermal comfort allowing the rest in the shade of the park during the hottest periods.
In the "New Age" the garden is made up of 183 olive trees and palm trees to represent the individual articles of the Constitution, while dozens of shrub species representing different ethnic groups and people of Kuwait.
The vegetation with species suited to the hot climate that reaches 50 ° C consists of shrubs, grasses, and flowering succulents. It 'been a pattern created by a mixture of shrub species. Euphorbias, bougainvillea, plumeria, lantana, carisse alternate with grasses, ground cover and palmettos.
Around the fountain were placed three long benches made of resin; flooring in large slabs of travertine honed.
Was made an extensive study on the characteristics of the soil in Kuwait: the soil is sandy with little organic matter and scarce nutrients to support plant growth and development; most of the soils are shallow due to the continued erosion of wind and strong sunshine that brings limestone layers below the surface. Furthermore, the absorption capacity of water in the soil is low due to the presence of sand, little organic material, and especially to the presence of salinity.
To overcome these problems, it had to undertake a major soil preparation, through its leaching by placing a subsequent rinse and through the use of humic acids or organic substance.

Il progetto nasce per celebrare il 50° anniversario della Costituzione del Kuwait. Al Amiri Diwan, l'ente governativo, decise di realizzare a Kuwait City un parco per ospitare il monumento "La Costituzione", che mostra il percorso verso la democrazia dello Stato del Kuwait.
Nel 2011 fu organizzato un concorso ad inviti su un'area in prossimità del mare, poi nel 2012 lo Studio SdARCH fu incaricato di sviluppare il progetto di concorso su un'altra area denominata Parco dei Martiri dove verrà insediato il Museo attualmente in costruzione.
Il giardino è diviso in due zone, una rappresenta l'"Antica Era", la seconda la "Nuova Era".              Il monumento segna il passaggio dalla vecchia era che rappresenta il tempo pre-costituzione, alla nuova era, ovvero il periodo post-costituzione dello Stato del Kuwait. “L’Antico” è rappresentato da un paesaggio disordinato, arido e frenetico, dove regna la sensazione d’instabilità e d’insicurezza. “Il Nuovo” è rappresentato da un paesaggio organizzato, prospero e ordinato, dove regnano sicurezza e calma. Il giardino è concepito secondo la tradizione islamica, come riflesso del paradiso, un luogo dove alloggiare e dove il tempo scorre, uno spazio ombreggiato dove abbondano acqua e vegetazione, tutto interpretato con una nuova visione contemporanea. Un luogo dove il tempo è "in-between", tra la storia dello Stato del Kuwait e il suo futuro e dove anche lo spazio è " in-between ", tra il territorio e il nuovo paesaggio di Kuwait City.
I percorsi nella “l'Era Antica” non sono ordinati, il paesaggio è impervio, duro, gli alberi e gli arbusti convivono con piccole formazioni rocciose e combattono con un terreno desertico, in un clima arido e senz'acqua.
Il monumento è inteso come elemento di passaggio verso il futuro, è realizzato con due grandi portali di 15x9 mt di altezza, in ottone e titanio, dal lato dell' “Era Antica” mentre sul lato dell' “Era Nuova”, 183 blocchi in rilievo mettono in risalto gli articoli della Costituzione. I due grandi portali sono illuminati alla base per risaltare il riflesso del materiale, accentuando la visibilità del monumento, come "faro": la Costituzione è come una guida tra la terraferma e il mare. La facciata in ottone sul lato de “l’Era Antica”, senza testi e senza guida, rappresenta le difficoltà del passato risolte e superate grazie alla Costituzione.
La FONTANA, posta al centro del parco ha grandi getti d'acqua richiamando l'immagine dell'oasi, all'intorno un sistema di nebulizzazione dell'acqua, conferisce al luogo un maggior comfort termico permettendo la sosta all'ombra del parco anche durante i periodi più caldi.
Nella “Era Nuova” il giardino è formato da 183 alberi tra olivi e palme per rappresentare i singoli articoli della Costituzione, mentre decine di specie arbustive rappresentano le diverse etnie e popolazioni del Kuwait.
La vegetazione con specie adatte al clima torrido che arriva anche ai 50°C è costituita da arbusti, graminacee, fioriture e piante grasse. E' stato creato un pattern grazie a un mix delle specie arbustive. Euforbie, bouganville, plumeria, lantane, carisse si alternano a graminacee, tappezzanti e palme nane.
Intorno alla fontana sono state poste tre lunghe panchine realizzate in resina; le pavimentazioni in grandi lastre di travertino levigato.
E' stato fatto un ampio studio sulle caratteristiche del terreno in Kuwait: il terreno è sabbioso con poca materia organica e scarse elementi nutritivi per supportare la crescita delle piante e lo sviluppo; la maggior parte dei terreni sono poco profondi dovuto dalla continua erosione del vento e la forte radiazione solare che porta gli strati calcarei inferiori in superficie. Inoltre la capacità di assorbimento di acqua nel terreno è bassa dovuto alla presenza di sabbia, a poco materiale organico e soprattutto alla presenza di salinità.
Per ovviare a queste problematiche, si è dovuto intraprendere un'importante preparazione del terreno, attraverso il suo dilavamento mediante apposita irrigazione dilavante ed attraverso l’utilizzo di acidi umici e sostanze organiche.
