The New Arcade (Passage in Dutch) is a modern extension of the historic Passage shopping arcade, connecting the Grote Markstraat and the Spuistraat. This part of The Passage is 10,500 square metres and will feature shops like Kult, Starbucks, ICI Paris XL, Frozz, The Sting and Mango. The Suite Novotel with 118 rooms will also be located in the complex.

The Hague's famous Arcade was built by local dignitaries between 1882 and 1885 for the express purpose of 'high-class shopping' in imitation of Paris.  The Netherlands' oldest shopping arcade, now an official UNESCO monument, is not only still intact – it is flourishing. Nestled among passageways, glass atria, pedestrian bridges and chiselled façades, you will find 20 boutique stores, bustling food & drink establishments, and even a hotel. With elements of both the past and the present. Indoors, stately, and stunningly beautiful.

French-Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi has given this new section of The Passage a light and open design. Like the historic section this new section also has a high glass roof. The architect was inspired by Dutch skies and Delft pottery and these images are reflected on the facades of the shops and on the impressive entrance to The Passage on the Grote Marktstraat.

Around the ellipse-shaped windows Sempergreen Vertical Systems installed a stunning green wall. This custom-made vertical garden is a good representation of the flexibility of the FlexiPanel system for living walls.
