the Ghost Block of Giambattista Nolli | STARTT
reseach project at Monditalia – 14th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia Venice / Italy / 2014
The work investigates the story of the abandoned block of San Giacomo Hospital in Rome as a great public architecture, from its foundation in 1339 to its closure and attempted privatization in October 2008, motivated by the necessity to comply with the fiscal compact. Within the economic processes (of crisis?) and within the (political?) constitution of Europe, the story of San Giacomo questions the issue of public heritage, the notion of preservation and the function of public architectures and commons in the definition of the European City.
