A 1960s property is stunningly updated and brought into the 21st Century Haslemere / United Kingdom / 2013
The project consisted of the renovation and extension of an existing 1960’s single family home in a suburban setting. Its well aged car port was reinvented as a new open plan entrance hall. The new extension houses an open plan kitchen and dining area, master bedroom suite and new car port.
The client's brief for the extension was to provide an architectural statement with its own integrity. The new building volume emphasises the horizontal movement of a new car port roof and the existing, juxtaposed by the vertical centre piece of the 2 storey extension. The chosen cladding material for all new build is artificial shingles. It provides a visual separation to the through coloured render finished renovations of the existing.
The extension has been positioned in such a way as to redefine the entrance and setting of the existing home, whilst maximising the southerly aspect of the property. A reconfigured internal layout, thermal improvements to all existing building fabrics, a new heating system and new facade finishes completed the refurbishment.
