E-ON HQ Nottingham. Business in the City.
To create and outstanding workplace on a corner site within the City centre of Nottingham, that will attract and retain call centre personnel and promote the company without being too shouty was a challenge. The first thing when considering the interior design of this building with its glazed facades was, what does the interior look like from the outside? What is on view and not just during daylight hours? This building operates 24/7.
Colour, illumination, views into and through, the choice of materials on horizontal and vertical surfaces, furniture, specific luminaires, window treatments, ceilings and visual security systems all contribute to the visual coherence of the whole.
The precise space planning and management of the internal spaces and volumes, the way in which the visual, audible, haptic, smell and taste senses are stimulated, all affect the way the E-on personnel experience their building, because they all affect the human psyche.
The interior spaces are considered as enablers, to improve agile business practices. They have been designed to maximise the efficiency of the available floor plates in terms of accommodating personnel numbers and provide for future adaptability, yet still communicate the connectivity between the eight floors (and thus throughout the organisation) by the use of a central atrium. This top lit atrium brings daylight into the heart of he building and houses two feature glass lifts. Well designed circulation spaces at the edges of the floor plates around the atrium, provide for informal meetings, the use of hand held technology turns these spaces into legitimate workspaces. Internal colour, graphics manifestations, light and material choices have been made with a view to reinforcing the E-on brand and stimulating the senses. The quality of the interior fit and finish, look and feel contributing to this contemporary city centre workplace aesthetic.
