The old Girls’ school of Gytheio (late 19th c.) is attributed to E.
Ziller. The restored building will host the Eastern Mani Cultural
Center. Its aim is the “import” of visitors to a particular cultural
universe of the region and the networking of tourist attractions.
The museographic study, suggests various individual uses:
three exhibition halls, work spaces for management work,
multipurpose hall. The latter, is a flexibly designed space with a
dividing element, adapted, according to the needs, to a classroom
of training programs, temporary exhibitions, screenings, etc.
The central idea of the architectural design arises from the theme
of the museum: In order to tame the stone barren land and produce
basic food products, the people of Mani used tools made
of stone, wood and metal. The museographic design is based on
the above natural materials, giving them in a contemporary and
abstract manner. In the room dedicated to local products, the
textures are rough. As the museological narration evolves in time,
describing the era of the cultural development of Gytheio reaching
today, the materials are finished following this metaphorical
sophistication.
Any intervention proposed is easily reversible
