STC_Space to Culture

The building was designed by Cervellati in 1971, it was projected not only with high quality standards of well-being, comfort and versatility of spaces, but it wants to demonstrate its own soul.
The project aims to enhance the potential of the present building, characterized by architectural quality, elegant, bright spaces and rich green areas.
For these reasons, apart from the economic and environmental sustainability aspects, we focus on preserving the building’s identity, by adding a contemporary style, customizable and flexible in time and space, it allows to live the space in various ways, according to the users' needs.
The wide opened spaces of the ground floor were maintained the same but highlighted.
According to the tipical industrial signage, combined with proxemics, i.e the study of human social behavior and the distance that human interposes between himself and others, and between himself and objects, it defines the spaces misured by human size.
Spaces are perceived but not physically defined .
The only intervention to the original structure is the demolition of some parts of the first floor slab, preserving the structural grid, in order to transform two large separate plans into one unified space.
It is a unique large volume that contains different functions suitable for all categories, from children to the elderly , as well as different users like individuals, artists, schools, offices...
The original dark-glass panels are replaced by a new glass and polycarbonate facade for greater transparency and more dialogue between inside and outside.
The outdoor space is designed as a place of social interaction with sports, cultural and entertainment facilities.
