Il progetto Cathedral Of Sound, nasce da un concept per un concorso di design d’interni avente come tema la ristrutturazione di una chiesa sconsacrata, da riconvertire in spazio pubblico. La scelta di riconversione è stata quella di trasformare una ex chiesa di Detroit, Michigan USA, in una discoteca e club per eventi musicali e concerti, il tutto reinterpretando gli interni in una veste tipica dei club e delle discoteche americane degli anni Ottanta. La chiesa, composta da una navata centrale e due laterali, ha il classico schema di pianta a croce latina. Seguendo il medesimo andamento sono stati creati quattro spazi connessi l’uno all’altro: il foyer, il bar, la chill out zone e la dancefloor. Queste aree sono caratterizzate da un unico elemento che fa da filo conduttore di tutto il progetto: le fonti luminose. Mediante un sistema di pareti a led, escludendo i lampadari a medusa posti a soffitto, le altre fonti di luce sono date unicamente dagli elementi di arredo, come ad esempio i parapetti delle scale e delle terrazze, chiamati led wall, o i glass boxes con doppia funzione di seduta e piano d’appoggio. The Cathedral Of Sound project was born from a concept for a design competition about the interior renovation of a former church, converted into public space. The choice of conversion was to transform a former church in Detroit, Michigan USA, in a disco and music club for events and concerts, all reinterpreting the interior like clubs and discos typical of american eighties. The church consists of a nave and two aisles, has the classic pattern of a Latin cross. Following the same trend were created four spaces connected to each other: the foyer, the bar, the chill out zone and the dancefloor. These areas are characterized by a single element that is the underlying theme of the entire project: the light sources. Through a system of LED walls, excluding the seats jellyfish shaped chandeliers on the ceiling, the other light sources are given only by the items of furniture, such as the railings of the stairs and terraces, called led wall, or glass boxes with double function of the seat and the bearing surface.
