For Oslo Hackney, thehousewith… drew inspiration from the theatrical nostalgia of Norwegian folklore; a fairy tale of oceans, forests and mythical creatures. This would be a subtle yet intriguing backdrop to a venue providing the latest in food, drink and music buried in the depths of London’s creative hub. Built as a railway station in 1870, the venue was laced with time-honoured, historical jewels such as grand high ceilings, exposed original brickworks and impressive Victorian arched windows, all of which created the perfect starting point to the project; dressing, accentuating and optimising this beautiful piece of architecture with the envisaged story to create an innovative yet relaxed space was all that Oslo Hackney needed. The name enabled us to take this stately piece of London history and inject it with a new sense of life and character unique and artistic enough to suit its local community of creative minds. Oslo = freshness and capture of fishing | Oslo = folklore that surrounds its woodlands To portray the essence of Oslo, we looked to our collaborative photographer; Seb Barros to capture with perceptiveness and skill, the theatre of our design. The design details as seen in these images are a taste of the entire picture. We thrive on the craft of simple materials, raw edges and previously used components evoking a nostalgic feeling of traditional workmanship. Made with our philosophy in mind, we specifically hand crafted many of the bespoke lights and unique details in our Bermondsey Studio, whilst our in-house Illustrator; Jon Powell produced a set of bespoke artworks which are absorbed into the space perfectly. Moving away from conventional trends, we added textural, low-key luxury with the use of raw oak slabs, delicate reeded glass and the softness of large velvet curtains and flowing linen shades to give a sense of faded grandeur awakening the feeling of the building’s bygone era. Oslo is the significant new arrival in the dynamic and burgeoning area of Hackney Central.
