To design and construct a community Eco Centre. The Eco Centre will take the form of an environmentally sustainable designed education centre. The Eco Centre will link the school to the community (Bruce’s Creek Environmental master plan)
Project objectives
To provide an indoor / outdoor learning facility that is designed to demonstrate to the school and the broader community environmentally sustainable construction features
To provide direct links to areas such as; energy usage, water usage, reduce reuse and recycle, etc principles
To provide a demountable structure that can be repositioned on the new school site
To provide a specialised, ICT rich meeting place for the community that can inform residential building design
To provide an indoor/outdoor teaching and learning space to deliver a broad curriculum with links to environmental principles
Project Benefits
The Eco Centre will provide a 6 star rated community facility that will demonstrate sustainability features with its design that can be adopted by people building in the Bannockburn community.
It will provide a specialised indoor/outdoor teaching and learning space for the school and a usable learning / meeting / activity space for the community
It will be sited near the Bruce’s Creek environment corridor and will be a focal point for community and school environment activities (links with Golden Plains Shire have been developed)
Project Scope
To construct a demountable indoor/outdoor learning centre with a 6 star rating
Internal learning space of 162m2 including wet areas, laboratory, store, ICT rich environment
Outdoor learning space of 54m2. Includes solar panels, water tanks, water-free toilet, double glazing, passive temperature control.
The building is to be designed and constructed to a 6 star rating and also to incorporate in its design environmentally sustainable features and products. Monitoring of energy production and usage, water usage and storage, temperature etc will be incorporated and utilised for teaching
The Eco Centre is to link with other outdoor learning structures that will be designed and constructed to complement the Eco Centre.
