"Una casa non è casa se non è calda d'inverno, fresca d'estate, serena in ogni stagione per accogliere in armoniosi spazi la famiglia" ERNESTO NATHAN ROGERS, 1946 SPONGE è una casa unifamiliare a basso costo, pensata per latitudini mediterranee, ottenuta da un quadrato di 14.00 m di lato.Essa combina il modo passivo di utilizzo dell'energia solare (a zero impatto ambientale) con quello artificiale (ad impatto ambientale).La filosofia progettuale è stata favorire il modo passivo piuttosto che quello artificiale. Nel primo modo le scelte architettoniche - come le finestre distribuite nella parete esposta a sud e le pareti est ed ovest usate come massa termica di accumulo del calore mattutino e pomeridiano - sono molto importanti, così il quadrato di base è stato "eroso" e "modellato" in maniera tale da ottenere una casa solare che rispetti la traiettoria del sole nei solstizi e negli equinozi. La casa solare passiva modifica i fotoni del sole in maniera tale da ottenere, all'interno dell'abitazione, una temperatura costante.Nel modo artificiale i fotoni sono catturati dal pannello fotovoltaico e trasformati in energia elettrica per riscaldare, raffrescare e illuminare la casa a costo zero, con zero emissioni di CO2. It combines the use of solar energy in passive (with no environmental impact) and active mode (with environmental impact). The project philosophy is to favour the first. Passive use of solar energy requires important architectural choices - like windows distribution in the south exposed wall and the eastern and western walls used as thermic mass of daily heat storage. For this reason the basic square has been "eroded" and "modelled" in order to have a sunny house that respects the run of solstice (winter, summer) and equinox (spring, autumn). The solar passive house uses sun exposure to achieve constant inner temperature. In the artificial use of solar energy, sunlight is captured by the photovoltaic panels and then transformed in electrical energy to heat, to get cool and to illuminate the house with no additional costs or CO2 emissions.
