Tension
Natural rubber & beechwood furniture
2
An invite for natural rubber (from the hevea’s latex) to be part of our everyday life. Rubber is on the foreground, visible and perceptible, confronted with another natural material: beechwood. The different pieces are a play on aesthetic and technical complementarity of these raw materials. They’re questioning the notion of “poor” material, aiming to give back to the “cao-tchu” (“weeping wood” in quechua) its inner poetry.
Tension's desk and shelf unit use rubber's elastic force to hold together their wooden parts without the need of glue nor screws. The different materials can then be recycled separately.
For the Tension's chair, rubber's elasticity brings flexibility to the wooden part and makes the seat more comfortable.
