Holiday Inn Camden has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment to the public spaces and is the second hotel in Europe to trial IHG's ‘open lobby concept’. Dexter Moren Associates' wealth of experience in hospitality design was called upon to create a welcoming experience for guests and locals. The traditional hotel lobby format was transformed by combining the front desk, lobby, bar, lounge area and business centre into one open, cohesive space, while refreshing the design to give it a more contemporary feel. The use of bright colours and playful furniture rejuvenated this well established hotel and created an inviting setting with noticeable street presence in an already lively area. With a design concept inspired by the local context, and subtle referencing of Camden’s lively markets and atmospheric music venues, the eccentricities of the outside were brought in by way of quirky objects adorning bespoke joinery used to generate a sequence of flexible spaces. The design has been developed as a response to how people use space within their home environment, creating a home away from home. Guests are able to enjoy a coffee-house-style environment with ample informal meeting space and a snug area to relax and lounge as one would in their own living room. The 24/7 To Go Café, serving Starbucks coffee has been designed to give guests the flexibility to eat in, eat out or enjoy take-away items in their rooms. The combination of furniture styles and finishes open the space to everyone whether it be enjoying a drink or making the most of a working lunch. The new lobby is a casual and unpretentious space designed to make all guests feel welcome.
