Economy poses the questions; the university provides its interdisciplinary know-how for the realization of the respective project. The first construction stage of this initiative was executed with the building for “Intelligent Technical Systems” in 2011. The cubic structure is placed near the group of buildings such as Heinz Nixdorf Institute, the HNF Museum, and the b.i.b. College of economics. Together with the boulevard the new building will extend the whole complex south-easterly. The building itself is flexible and forward-looking. There are possibilities for exchange, discourse and presentation as well as smaller rooms for concentrated research. The central lobby joins all floors and areas of research. It is the “business card” of the building but as well serves as open communication platform for users and visitors. The envelope is characterised by its curtain wall. The opaque surfaces are made of dark colour changing ALUCOBOND®. The panel lengths were maximized up to the statically possible size to avoid disturbing joints. The soffits in the entrance area and the window joints as well as the roof edges were carried out in the same colour and flush with the adjacent areas. This provides elegance to the outer skin and perferctly fits to the neighbouring façade of the computer museum with its dark bronze envelope.
