The Ballina Volunteer Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre will replace the existing dilapidated tower that currently stands on the north break-wall at the mouth of the RIchmond River, an iconic site between river and beach. The building includes a workshop/garage, a co-ordinated rescue room and an operations + radio room. The form of the building follows it's program - two elevated platforms with views in three directions are wrapped with a singular, sinuous masonry wall. This wall provides stability, resistance to heat and solar gain and vertical circulation through the building. The building is currently under detailed design with construction forecast for early 2014.
