Rebelot is a bistro situated by a canal in the Navigli district in Milan . These canals were once the main route and port for goods to be delivered to the town of Milan. The design of Rebelot recalls the old warehouses along the Navigli and emphasizes the continuity of space from the interior to the pedestrian canal-side exterior with windows that slide back into the walls. The interior itself is designed with a “no brand” approach, avoiding commercially recognizable objects. Most of the materials, such as the wooden panels, come from locally dismantled rural buildings and the furniture has been constructed using recycled old wood recovered from hay-lofts or old furnishings. Rebelot’s kitchen is open-plan so the public can fully enjoy the preparation of the small masterpieces being created by the chef. Thanks to a sophisticated air circulation system the two spaces don’t need to be divided by a glass screen. Acoustics and lighting are also carefully designed for maximum comfort without loosing the “new old” look
