Peter Karpf was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1940, trained as a cabinetmaker under Fritz Hansen and qualified as a furniture designer from the Copenhagen School of Arts & Crafts. During his career, Peter Karpf has, among other things, worked with furniture design for Grethe Jalk, interior design with Arne Jacobsen and industrial design with Erik Herløw. He describes himself as a nestor-minimalist, and it is perhaps precisely his sense of his own position in life that makes it so natural to find inspiration where other people seldom seek – in something so simple but indisputably beautiful as a space without furniture. He prefers to work with wood when creating new designs, and if one asks him of his favourite view, he replies a hill-top in Tuscany. Just as straightforward as it is for him to prefer precisely this view is his linking of natural spaces and architectural spaces, and to find energy in the potential that exists in this connection.
