Melissa Pravato is the principal designer and owner of Pravato Design, LLC, based in Staten Island, New York. Melissa’s love for interior design began at an early age when she found herself often tagging along to work with her construction-developer father. Growing up on job sites and living in a house that was always in some stage of reconstruction or remodeling, Melissa found herself inspired and fascinated by the world of interior design and the beauty of transforming a home. Melissa also had a love for fashion and in her free time she would spend hours creating custom dresses for her dolls from old ruffled socks and printed fabric. It wasn’t long after that Melissa realized, with her flair for fashion and design, she would make her mark in the industry. Melissa attended LIM College in New York where she earned her BBA in marketing and merchandising and took additional design courses at The Fashion Institute of Technology. After college, Melissa worked for a private label fashion company for over 5 years, creating women’s evening wear that sold to major department stores and boutiques worldwide. Thereafter, she left the fashion world and went off to work for an architectural design firm where she assisted in home design and project management. It wasn’t soon after that, Melissa decided to forge ahead on her own and created her first interior design firm in 2010. Melissa’s signature style combines sophisticated color, clean lines, bold-scaled prints, and a classic mixture of furniture styles. She loves mixing old with new to create spaces that are both modern and timeless. Her mission is to create interiors with a fresh perspective that uniquely reflect her clients’ personalities and desires. It’s important to her that she gets to know her clients, listen to their stories and ideas, and build a design that enables each individual’s style to emerge into a design that will inspire and promote their well being. Melissa gets her inspiration from many things including her frequent trips abroad (China, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, etc.), walking in the streets of New York City, meeting new people, attending museums, architecture, photography, nature, new restaurants and hotels. Her many inspirations are incorporated to each and every one of her designs.
