She developed her experience and her passion for Downtown LA during her fifteen years with Killefer Flammang Architects. While at KFA, she was the Director of Adaptive Reuse Projects, in which she personally designed and managed through completion the conversion of twelve high-rise buildings that total over 3,000 live/work residences. The first being Tom Gilmore’s Old Bank District, the last being The Roosevelt Lofts.

Three current projects at Omgivning include Broadway Trade and The Proper Hotel located on Broadway, and The Sears Landmark in Boyle Heights. In the last few years, Omgivning has grown into a firm of 25 Architects and Interior Designers, and has provided services on over 250 buildings, primarily in Downtown Los Angeles.

Karin is a single mom and was a seven year resident of Downtown LA. She is active in many organizations, most notably “Bringing Back Broadway,” in which she has poured much of her dedication to the re-development of historic structures.
